Reflections on contemporary life in the "age of advertising," particularly the impact of the mass media and new mass communication technologies. Examines the use of the language of the mass media by contemporary painters, mainly Italians. Proposes the term "medial painting" to describe these works, and discusses the fictional realism which these artists depict.
