Study of the patronage of the Guelf party in Florence in the early Renaissance, focusing on Donatello's statue of S. Louis of Toulouse for Orsanmichele (now at S. Croce) and the sala grande of the Palazzo di Parte Guelfa, by Brunelleschi. The reviewer endorses the author's dating of these works, comments on her views concerning the unfinished Guelf party palace begun in 1386 in Piazza della Signoria, and commends her approach for combining thorough knowledge of Florentine society and politics with a concern for art historical issues.
