Abstract (en)

Argues that the origin of the image of the Annunciation in a church in French 15th c. manuscript illumination and in paintings as Jan van Eyck's Annunciation in Washington (National Gallery of Art) can be traced to images of Jean de Berry praying in his ducal chapel depicted in the illuminated manuscripts he commissioned.
