Abstract (en)

Assesses artistic developments in the former East Germany in comparison with works produced before reunification. Discusses the stylistic shift from abstraction to realism in the 1970s and 1980s; and comments on the political significance of Werner Tübke's Bauernkriegspanorama, 1987 (Bauernkriegsgedenkstätte, Bad Frankenhausen). Includes numerous reproductions of paintings and some sculpture, primarily from the 1970s-80s.
