Abstract (en)

Argues for the establishment in Britain of an independent advisory service for owners needing to dispose of works of art of national importance. Argues that the auction houses are not in a position to offer unbiased advice. Discussion spurred by Lord Cholmondeley's announcement of his plan to sell at auction Holbein's Woman with a Squirrel.
