Explores the iconography, form, and function of the Crucifixion Altarpiece by Jan van Dornicke (Jan Mertens the younger), ca.1520 (private collection). Introductory section surveys his life and work. Notes a Crucifixion attributed to Jan de Beer, ca.1520-1525 (Cologne, Erzbischöfliches Diözesan-Museum), which follows closely the composition of Dornicke's central panel.
