Examines the 18th-20th c. visual record--paintings, drawings and watercolors created mostly by artists of European descent--that has accompanied the Euroamerican exploration and settlement of North America. Focuses on the themes of discovery, erasure and invention. Majority of works discussed are 19th and early-20th c.
