Issue devoted to the theme of imitation and mimesis, some aspects of which are discussed in relation to the exhibition Imitationen: Nachahmung und Modell (Zürich, Museum für Gestaltung, Nov 1989-Jan 1990). Contains essays on imitation by Reck, Recki, Meyer, Heller and Bredekamp, as well as the following essays: Kamper on man and machine; Schirner on identity and appearance; Zimmermann on self-portraiture; H. Böhme on the philosopher Hubert Fichte; Danuser on imitation in music; G. Böhme on nature in the era of technical reproduction; Reck on the art theory of Aby Warburg; Wenk on the relationship of sculpture and photography during the Nazi period; Weissberg on the sculptor Emmanuel Frémiet; Vogel on the image of the human body in video art; Fontanilles on the cult of the proletariat; Krass on technical simulations of war.
