Reflects on the proper methodological direction for art history in Slovakia, where cultural identity has traditionally been anthropologically rather than nationalistically determined. Suggests a focus on: 1) cultural and artistic phenomena "represented by the peripheries, provinces, regions or enclaves"; and 2) the sociology of art and the transition of culture from an ideological to a market orientation.
