Abstract (en)

Discusses the exhibition Munch et la France, held at the Musée d'Orsay, Paris, in 1991-1992, and the related international colloquium held at the museum Oct 17-18, 1991. Exhibition and conference covered the years 1885-1908, comprising the period of Munch's three-year sojourn in Paris (1889-1991) and subsequent return visits, and examined the balance Munch achieved between involvement with and independence from the French avant-garde.
