Abstract (en)

Study of the chalice (Washington, National Gallery of Art) commissioned by Suger for the abbey church of Saint-Denis; it is composed of an antique sardonyx cup (here assigned to Alexandria before 30 B.C.) in a gold setting with precious stones and pearls that was executed at Saint-Denis, probably 1137-1140.
