Abstract (en)

Study of the Muzzarelli Altarpiece (Washington, National Gallery of Art), commissioned for S. Francesco, Ferrara, by Giulia Muzzarelli, whose donor portrait is mentioned in Vasari's account of the painting; dates the altarpiece ca.1556; and confirms that the subject is the Assumption of the Virgin. (Appendices with provenance and documents dated 1555 concerning the Muzzarelli chapel in S. Francesco).
