Reports on the conference on the Mellon Venus, a 16th c. bronze sculpture in the National Gallery, Washington, once attributed to Sansovino; this inaugurated a series of annual meetings at the National Gallery's Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts, bringing together scholars from various branches of the art historical professions to examine some aspect of the National Gallery's collection. Comments on papers relating the statue to the work of Nicholas Cordier, and summarizes information and conclusions linking the Venus, together with the Mellon Bacchus and a Faun, with Lombard sculpture, ca.1600.
