Collection of essays on four icons from the Menil Collection, originally delivered at a special session devoted to them at the 14th Annual Byzantine Studies Conference, held in Houston. The monograph contains the following studies: Christine Havice on the the 16th c. Russian Dormition of the Virgin icon; Ellen C. Schwartz on the 13th-14th c. Greek icon of S. Stephen; Nancy P. Ševčenko on historiated icons; Leslie Brubaker and Annemarie Weyl Carr on the 13th c. Greek icon of S. Basil; and Jaroslav Folda on the 13th c. S. Marina (S. Margaret of Antioch) icon and the links between Byzantine and Crusader art.
