Contrasts 19th c. depictions of Alsatian Jewish life by the German painter Oppenheim and the French artist Lévy, pointing out that Oppenheim sentimentalized the middle-class Jewish subjects he represented, while Lévy resorted to caricature in his depiction of peasants.
