Examines Jones's annotations to architectural treatises he owned before his trip to Italy in 1613-1614, in order to demonstrate the extent of his knowledge of Italian architecture and theory. The marginalia in his copies of Palladio, Vitruvius, Serlio and Vasari suggest that he was familiar with classical architectural principles and was interested in the use of antique details.
