Abstract (en)
Examines notions of rural land use and landscape architecture promoted in the Monatsblatt by Gustav Vorherr, self-appointed state expert on rural architecture in Bavaria. Vorherr focused on villages where local farmers had little interest in land embellishment, rather than on agricultural domains where the bourgeoisie sought beautification programs. Discusses the political and social background and ramifications of Vorherr's proposed plans for Bavaria, and concludes that Vorherr's ideas for land embellishment were "simplistic geometrifications of a society with increased social complexity".
