Examines published and recently discovered unpublished documents concerning S. Onofrio in the early 16th c., and proposes that it was Cherubino Bonacossa da Ferrara, the prior of S. Onofrio, and not Francisco Cabañas, who commissioned the frescoes by Peruzzi in the apse of the church. Argues that the previous identification of Cabañas as the donor was based on the modern location of his tomb, which originally stood in the side chapel owned by him.
