On the transformation of princely collections from private establishments where entry was limited to the privileged few to institutions accessible to the middle class on a regular basis. Focuses on three examples: the Medici family and the Tribuna of the Uffizi; Friedrich II, Landgraf von Hessen-Kassel, and the Museum Fridericianum; and Hans Sloane and the British Museum.
