Proposes a new attribution for the predella panels from the main altarpiece of S. Denis, Liège (various locations): formerly given to Lambert Lombard, the paintings are here ascribed to Lambert Suavius, best known as an engraver and goldsmith. Suggests this attribution on the basis of a newly discovered preparatory drawing for one of the panels, S. Denis Receiving Communion from Jesus (Sacramento, Crocker Art Museum), which can be compared with a number of engravings by Suavius. In addition, attributes the design of a tapestry of the Coronation of the Virgin (Rome, Vatican, Museums; previously attributed to Lombard)) to Suavius as well, along with an unpublished painting representing Cupid Chastised (Mentana, Federico Zeri collection) and posits that the artist spent some time studying in Rome.
