Abstract (en)
Reports that thermoluminescence analysis has established that a painted terra cotta figure of Joseph, attributed to Matteo Civitale (and previously to Fra Ambrogio della Robbia) in the Walters Art Gallery, Baltimore, is an authentic Renaissance work; argues that doubts arose from its association with a modern Madonna and Child when it was in the collection of Thomas Fortune Ryan.
