Abstract (en)
On the basis of deduction and of documentary evidence (including the contract) establishing that Savoldo's altarpiece with the Madonna and Child with Two Angels and Four Saints now in the Pinacoteca di Brera, Milan, was painted for S. Domenico, Pesaro, 1524-25, and included a Dead Christ, proposes that this was the provenance of the Dead Christ with Joseph of Arimathea in the collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art. Also considers related works and other aspects of the painting's context.
