Investigates the nature of Malvasia's interest in drawings by the Carracci family, and the information to be gleaned from it. Most of Malvasia's references to drawings in Malvasia's biography of the Carracci are not specific; where he does mention individual works, he discusses mainly drawings that served as preparatory studies for paintings or prints; further, he refers most often to drawings in his own extensive collection or that of the painter Lorenzo Pasinelli. Malvasia seems less well informed about the Carracci's early drawings than about their later works, and preferred more finished sheets to sketches.
