Explores current practices in the history of Medieval architecture, describing in particular the modernist approach which, the author contends, is inherently ahistorical. Discusses historical, political and aesthetic biases in traditional architectural history from the 19th through the early 20th cs., and suggests that "an open acknowledgement of the model used today for the study of Medieval architecture would release the discipline from fleeting, false notions of absolute truths".
