Abstract
(en)
Discusses Bernini's and later projects for a third segment of the colonnade of Piazza S. Pietro (Rome, Vatican), and focuses on an unpublished drawing previously attributed to Bernini but here identified as representing an early 18th c. project for the third segment with a clock and the coat of arms of Clement XI (Matelica, Museo Piersanti); relates it to efforts of Lodovico Segardi to promote the building of the "terzo braccio" under Clement XI and compares the wooden model of 1720; also discusses the collection of Venanzio Filippo Piersanti, from which the drawing came. (Appendices with documents concerning the wooden model, and the estate inventory of Piersanti, 1762).
