Abstract (en)
Proposes a new approach to the study of the genesis of Neumann's first independent commission, the Schönborn chapel attached to the cathedral of Würzburg; suggests that rather than assuming that it was Italian sources that formed his conception, it is more useful to assume that he had no fully developed idea in mind and was in the process of exploring approaches to architecture.
