Abstract (en)
Study of a hollow cast silver medal with busts of Charles V, Philip II, Maximilian II, and Maria of Spain (Vienna, Kunsthistorisches Museum); considers its sources (Leone Leoni's medals of Charles and Maximilian, a medal of Philip by Jacopo Nizzola da Trezzo, and a medal of Maria attributed to Pompeo Leoni); suggests that it may have been commissioned by Ferdinand II of Tyrol for Rudolf II, in whose collection it is documented in 1607; dates it ca.1590; and attributes it on grounds of style to Alexander Colin, together with other works.
