Brief introductory statement to the 14 papers published in this volume which were presented at the international conference Focus Behaim-Globus, held Apr 5-6, 1990, at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum, Nuremberg. The conference dealt with cosmography and cartography from antiquity to the present (especially 13th-18th cs.), emphasizing the special place of Martin Behaim's globe of 1492 (Nuremberg, Germanisches Nationalmuseum) in this history.
