Abstract (en)
Reconstructs a funerary inscription in Hosios Loukas, dating it to the mid-11th c., and identifies the Theodore of the inscription as Theodosios Leobachos, one of four abbots responsible for the expansion and decoration of the monastery in the 11th c. Indicates portraits of Theodosios and the other abbots among the frescoes in the crypt of the katholikon; and suggests that he may have contributed the mosaic decoration. Examines the context of the founding of the monastery in the 10th c. in a region recovering from devastation, and discusses its transformation into an influential pilgrimage center in the 11th c.
