Abstract
(en)
Study of religious feasts and processions in São Paulo (including funerary processions), drawing attention to secular and pagan elements (masquerades, dances). Observes that these celebrations were virtually the only form of entertainment and that they brought the disparate populace together; suggests that this was exploited by the Catholic Church and the colonial powers.
