Abstract (en)

Argues that, "over the last two decades, architects have assumed the rôle once held uniquely by artists, and are today responsible for pushing forward the boundaries of artistic experience more than any other group." Praises the achievements of many contemporary British architects. Contends there are few examples of their work in Britain owing to an English obsession with a hierarchical class system and "patrons who are largely ill-informed and engrossed in an idealised vision of an imperial past".
