Compares gardens in the two countries during the 18th and early 19th cs., especially through the written and pictorial descriptions of English gardens by the Swedish garden designer F.M. Piper who was strongly influenced by English garden style after traveling in Great Britain. Comments on the use of woodlands, waterways, garden structures, earthworks and lawns, as well as the location of the house and the scale of the garden. Offers numerous examples supporting the conclusion that there were many significant similarities between pleasure gardens in England and those they influenced in Europe.
