Discusses the remodeling and enlargement of Claydon House, Middle Claydon, for the 2d Lord Verney in the 1750s and 60s, in a mixture of Anglo-Palladian, Chinese-Rococo and Georgian Gothick styles. Focuses on the roles of Luke Lightfoot and Thomas Robinson, noting conflicts owing to the fantastic character of Lightfoot's exotic carved wood and marble decorations, which offended Robinson's classical tastes; also notes that much of the new building was destroyed in the 1790s.
