Examines changes in the depiction of the parable of Susanna and the elders in mural painting and relief sculpture of the 3d and 4th cs., charting the invention of an iconography of conjugal chastity and casting light on the institutional church's efforts to reconcile and regulate the married, lay Christian's spiritual and social beings.
