Weichsel founded the organization in 1915 to offer an egalitarian alternative to the traditional structure of art patronage, especially for Jewish artists in New York. Under the auspices of the Guild, Weichsel organized five exhibitions between 1916 and 1918, at which some of the major American artists of the day showed their work.
