Argues on grounds of style that two portraits of Colonel Thomas Taylor, one belonging to the author and the other in the Columbia Museum of Art (Columbia, SC), as well as the portrait of Ann Wyche Taylor, also in the Columbia Museum, were painted by James Bowman and completed by his pupil DeVeaux; dates them tentatively to the time of the States' Rights meeting in Columbia, 1830.
