Discusses a miniature by Sarah Goodridge titled Beauty Revealed (Self-portrait) which shows a woman's bare breasts framed in drapery (New York, Metropolitan Museum). Goodridge presented this watercolor-on-ivory miniature to statesman Daniel Webster in 1828. Updike speculates on the nature of their relationship.
