Abstract
(en)
Argues that the Ezra miniature on fol.V of the Codex Amiatinus (Florence, Biblioteca Medicea-Laurenziana, MS Amiatinus I) is neither an accurate copy after a Vivarium original of Cassiodorus's Codex Grandior, as traditionally assumed, nor, as Karen Corsano has argued, an Insular pastiche based on texts, but that both the Ezra and the Evangelist portraits by Eadfrith in the Lindisfarne Gospels (London, British Library, MS Cotton Nero D.IV) are imitations of Late Antique opus sectile, conforming to Cassiodorus's taste in the visual arts as interpreted here.
