Abstract (en)
Examines Irish Crucifixion iconography, mainly on freestanding crosses of the 9th and 10th cs., and presents other comparative evidence showing that the generally accepted date of ca.1100 for a group of cast copper alloy plaques is open to question; also draws attention to features of the carved stone cross (dated to the 10th c.) in Armagh cathedral, which suggest that it was copied after a metal plaque.
