Abstract (en)

Report on the restoration of the frescoes by Masaccio, Masolino, and Filippino Lippi in the Brancacci chapel (Florence, S. Maria del Carmine). The reviewer finds the color plates valuable despite the darkness of some; but criticizes the disorienting organization of the text, the over-accommodating discussion of the iconography, and the restorers' assumption that they have arrived at an objective, scientific, and true vision of the frescoes.
