A former editor surveys aspects of the history of the New Art Examiner, and its policies and art criticism, over the 20 years since its founding. Observes that it was formed not only to chronicle but also to challenge the Chicago art scene, and that it developed into a multi-regionalist publication and has become a national magazine.
