Demonstrates that Gugler's unrealized 1915 project for the Vatican Borgo, with a circular piazza adjacent to the Castel S. Angelo linked to the Piazza S. Pietro by a straight axis, was inspired by the landscape architecture of the Mall, Washington, DC.
