Analyzes an engraving (1637) by Stefano Scolari of the Teatro Olimpico, in which the theater appears as a "Mysticum Theatrum," reflecting the doctrine of Egidio Colonna Romano, a 13th-14th c. Augustinian theologian. As such, the image resembles other metaphorical "memory theaters" of the 16th-17th c. Also discusses the special funerary function of the Teatro Olimpico (and other theaters) during this period.
