Surveys the extension of the tower of the Onze Lieve Vrouwekerk at Zwolle (nicknamed the "Pepperbox") in 1538-1540 on the basis of newly discovered archival material. This reveals that a design was submitted by Willem van Noort of Utrecht and his companion Jacob van den Borch, and by Simon Penet of Antwerp. The latter left soon after building had started and was succeeded by Jacob van Collen. Also the names of the stonemasons and their wages are known. Documents appended.
