Collection of seven articles on the great motifs in 19th c. Danish art (painting and literature) which show a vision du monde typical of the times. Analyzes the iconography of works by Golden Age painters. Articles include: "Eckersberg and the human order," "National education, mythology and history," "Ditlev Conrad Blunck's Four ages of man," "In the artist's studio: around Wilhelm Bendz," "Images of knowledge: on Christen Købke," "Constantin Hansen: the last pictures" and "The nature of love".
