Examines links between scenes from the Apocalypse cycle by Cimabue in the upper church of S. Francesco, Assisi, and the iconographic tradition of English illuminated Apocalypses; focuses on the relationship of the cycle to S. Bonaventura's view of history, which held that the perfection of the Apostolic age would be accomplished in the last period of the Church; proposes that the choice of a cycle based on S. Bonaventura conforms to the ideas of Nicholas III.
