Studies how photographs of the non-industrialized world were manipulated by interests in the industrialized nations to produce a vision, consistent with Social Darwinism and colonialism, reduced to terms of race (labor) and commodities; and draws attention to the transmission of this vision through illustrated ethnological publications and through pedagogical literature aimed at educating children for the realities of the new international economy.
