Assesses the two sieges of 1645 from an archaeological and topographical perspective, also examining the documentary sources and political scene in Leicester and its county. Particular attention is paid to the Newarke precinct where surviving musket loops are the only remnant of the defences to now survive above ground. A cache of ceramic grenades and various cannonball finds are also discussed.
