Utilizes Pietro Aretino's text La humanità di Christo (first published 1535) as a basis for an iconographic study of Titian's Ecce Homo (Vienna, Kunsthistorisches Museum), commissioned in 1543 by the Flemish merchant known as "Giovanni d'Anna" in Italy. Proposes new identities for several of the figures, including the preacher Bernardino Ochino, and Marchese Alfonso d'Avalos.
