Abstract (en)

Reviews sources on Titian's late work and lists 22 paintings datable 1565-1576, noting that none have been finished to traditional standards. Focuses on the Flaying of Marsyas (Kromeriz, Castle), and argues that two figures were added after Titian's death by another painter in order to finish the work for sale. Concludes that Titian's late work was not intended for any market but represents solitary, independent self-exploration.
